Highfields is a professionally designed retreat in Hudson, Ohio, surrounded by the rolling landscape of Northeast Ohio and just minutes from Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Here, modern architecture, gardens, open lawns, and wooded surroundings come together to create a setting that feels both refined and wonderfully natural. From the first arrival to the final celebration, guests move effortlessly between indoor and outdoor spaces, with changing light, seasonal landscapes, and beautiful views becoming part of the experience. The result is an atmosphere that feels private, relaxed, and distinctly Highfields, an inviting setting where celebrations unfold naturally and every moment feels connected to the place.

Design Vision & Inspiration

The vision for Highfields began with a deep appreciation for meaningful gatherings—both indoors and out. During time spent in the English countryside, the owner explored estates and event spaces that blended natural beauty with refined architectural design. These experiences shaped a desire to create something similar back home: a venue where guests could move effortlessly between open-air terraces, garden pathways, and modern interiors. Through months of research, she discovered visual inspirations—images of warm wood structures, open breezeways, and architecture that honored its surroundings. These references helped guide the design of Highfields into what it is today: a place where nature and structure exist in balance, and every celebration feels both elevated and grounded.

Highfields was professionally designed from the ground up, with architecture, landscape, and guest experience considered as one cohesive vision. From the welcoming circular arrival to the tree-lined walks, event terrace, gardens, and ceremony settings, each element is thoughtfully positioned to create a natural sense of arrival and discovery.

Then & Now

Since 1959, the Kuryla family has cared for the property where Highfields now stands. What began as a family farm with horses and open fields has evolved over generations while honoring the character of the land. Preserving mature woodlands, embracing open spaces, and thoughtfully shaping the landscape have always been at the heart of our vision. Drawing on decades of experience in landscape architecture and construction, the second and third generations of the Kuryla family designed and built Highfields as a place where architecture and landscape exist in harmony. Every element of the property was intentionally planned to create a seamless connection between indoors and out.

Just steps from Highfields, Level One is a versatile space ideal for bridal showers, baby showers, rehearsal dinners, and corporate gatherings. The newly added groom’s suite allows both sides of the wedding party to get ready on-site. With a climate-controlled interior, outdoor terrace, and flexible indoor-outdoor layout, Level One is perfect for DIY events of all kinds. The space features modern rustic charm, blending exposed natural architecture with a neutral palette for an atmosphere of relaxed elegance. An open floor plan and south-facing windows flood the room with natural light and offer sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. Sustainable landscaping throughout the property enhances the setting, making it a unique and beautiful backdrop for your next celebration or event.
